A referral enables claims to be made from Medicare and your health fund. Referrals are valid for 12 months from a General Practitioner and 3 months from another specialist.
All insured and uninsured patients are cared for in the same way. Private health insurance, however, may influence choice of hospital if an admission is necessary. If you have no insurance and wish to undertake private pregnancy care, admission to the RHW can be more cost effective.
Payment for a consultation is made on the day of the consultation. Payment is also required on the day for procedures undertaken in the office such as colposcopy or insertion of an intrauterine contraceptive device.
For gynaecological operations, an invoice is sent before the post operative visit. Payment is required within 30 days. A quote will be issued before the procedure so that you have an approximate idea of the cost.
For obstetric patients, a detailed list of fees will be given to you when you make the appointment for your first consultation.
